A line Wedding Dresses to ten is a tough shift

South of Evening Dresses 2014 UK the great deals border It one of those professions that career guidance teachers tend to snigger at.Much like a professional footballer, or an actor, a dj is seen by most pragmatists as a job something to do in your spare time rather than actually make a living from it.Well, if that the case, keith cunningham is the dream the man from cottage road, breaffy, just outside castlebar, has just been voted broadcaster of the year at the tender age of 29 at this year prestigious ppi radio awards held in the burlington hotel in dublin.Having started out with a pirate radio station on the westport road in castlebar some 15 years ago, keith received the award for his work for red fm in cork where he currently hosts the breakfast show from 6am to 10am, monday to friday.Kc, as he is known to his legion of loyal morning listeners on the banks of the lee, was delighted to receive such recognition. Was great to win such an award because there are so many popular djs in ireland at the moment. But the red rooster [the name of keith show] is going really well, our show percentage share of the audience has risen by 30 per cent in the last year so we must be doing something right.Keith has travelled a long and circuitous route through irish radio to the stage where he is now one of the most soughtafter young djs on irish radio.Stints of work at home in mayo, galway, dublin and then cork have seen him build up a wealth of experience that belies his age, but it all started out with pirate castlebar radio station, kiss fm, back in the early was a great buzz around the town, we all loved listening to this radio station and i had always had an interest in djing so i was determined to find out where the station was located.I knew anthony gallagher, who was a few years old than me, was involved so i rang his house and pretended to be one of his friends and his mother told me he was at kenneth o house. So i knew that where i was to hang out and eventually anthony, who is still one of my best mates, showed me around the keith admits he was immediately by the broadcasting bug and was fascinated with how it all operated. Was killnaskully fm stuff really, it was bottom of the barrel basic, two turntables and a mixer and a bit of a microphone and that was it.But it was the best craic. With communications equipment not quite so sophisticated back then, the kiss fm employed innovative ways of playing requests for their loyal listeners. We do is we have a fella on a racer at the phonebox beside the post office in castlebar and he write as many requests down as he could and then cycle back to the station with them. However, sometimes he be booted out of the box because some oul one would want to use the phone. What we all did was got listeners to drop their requests in a box in casey jones chipper and we would pick them up the next day.It was worth it, it was the most talkedabout buzz thing that was happening in the town at the time.Having served a apprenticeship with kiss fm, keith moved on to using the new facilities at the more legitimate castlebar community radio(Crc)Fm, before deciding once he had sat his leaving cert in davitt college to head for the smoke did a radio and broadcasting course in dublin for a couple of years and managed to finance a lot of my college days by doing gigs and weddings with brendan redmond around mayo at weekends.I soon found out that if you can keep a wedding crowd happy, you can keep anyone happy.Having completed his studies, keith moved back to castlebar and, with no fulltime work on the horizon, he decided to make the bold move and launch his own pirate station.Took out a loan and bought some equipment and rented a flat and i ended up running a station in mayo for about six months.I had a satellite receiver so i used to put out virgin radio in the morning and then come on myself around 3pm.The station was on 24 hours and we had chris evans doing the breakfast show so that always good.Of course, he didn realise he was doing it.Though, i met pat jennings from the tf and he introduced me to paul claffey from midwest radio.I thought he was going to have me arrested for having a pirate station but he actually sat me down and offered me a job at the station.I never actually ended up getting on air there at midwest, i was young at the time and i didn have much experience, but i learned a lot of production and engineering and it stood to me in the long run. With no fulltime work available in mayo, keith ended up sending off a demo to galway bay fm, where he started working shortly after.Got a job there and after about a year i ended up getting the breakfast show and was delighted with myself. That was my first proper onair gig.I was definitely the youngest breakfast presenter in the country but i would have to say i was definitely the worst as well. That was my first real paying job.I was living in a party city like galway, sure i was out in central park and cuba every night and then trying to get up at dawn to host a breakfast show.Eventually i got sacked from the breakfast show because basically i was rubbish at getting out of bed.To be honest, i had no respect for the job at the time and getting sacked was the best thing that ever happened to me.It was the kick in the arse that i needed and i haven slept in for a show since.Having experienced the reality and responsibility of working on live radio, keith now knew what was really needed to progress in such a competitive career market and next stop was fm104.Was a huge stepup.I was doing their weekend breakfast shows and i learned loads there, and then at that time in 2000, fm104 were awarded a licence for a new youth station in cork so when i was offered the chance of a fulltime post in cork, i jumped at the opportunity.Be honest, i never really settled in dublin, i absolutely loved living in galway and it the same in cork to me cork is like a smaller, tidy dublin with much nicer people, so i was glad to move here. The rest, as they say, is history.Keith is now seven years with red fm and kc is now a household name in cork city. However, it wasn all plain sailing down south for keith.I have been here from day one with red, through the good and the bad times. We had a couple of dodgy years but, thank god, things are flying now, we are the biggest station in cork for our target market. So how would keith describe the red rooster breakfast show to an uninitiated mayo public? Is it and breakfast radio at its best?Always hated words like or they throw up images of someone standing in the corner of the studio with a foghorn or something. But we are up for a bit of craic, it a musicdriven show and it totally cork concentrated and that why it does so well down here.Six A line Wedding Dresses to ten is a tough shift but i get to bed early. We all young and motivated here and that really helps. Some people find the pressures of radio too much to handle but keith admits the main reason he thrives as a dj is that he doesn see it as work.Know mates of mine who go out and build houses and fix cars but sometimes the main problem i have is wondering who is the next person i going to wind up on air.My philosophy on air is to relax and try and talk to somebody like you were down the pub.If your banter is like it would be in a social situation then people can relate to that much quicker. It just more real.
